Laugh until it hurts or you pee!

Laughter not only is it a happy habit to have but it is healthy!  I wish people could stop taking themselves so seriously.

My grandchildren get so embarrassed when they do something silly and become so sensitive when I joke with them about themselves and cute little things they do. Lighten up.

holi celebrationI ask them…did I get embarrassed when I peed in my pants at Disney? No. We laughed and laughed. Did I get embarrassed when you told other family members “Nanny peed in her pants”?  No. Did I get embarrassed when I laughed so hard I peed in my pants riding on a horse and the man said, “guess I should start carrying depends for the older folks “.  No. But, my daughter was embarrassed. The rest of us laughed. Did I get embarrassed when I thought my breasts got perky and realized later in the day I was wearing 2 bras? No. You have got to be able to laugh at yourself, with yourself and sometimes with others at yourself.

I read an article in Psychology Today on laughter. The average 4 year old laughs 300 times a day, the average 40 year old laughs 4 times a day. SAD.

Even if we hurt and could be especially if we hurt, it helps to laugh. The ability to find the funny pumps oxygen into adverse situations.

“Your sense of humor is one of the most powerful tools you have to make certain that your daily mood and emotional state support good health”. ~ Paul McGhee, ph.D
